Representatives from the Retiree Roadrunner Program are available to meet with seniors until 2 p.m. today in front of the Justice Building, hoping to inform them about issues in upcoming state and national elections and encourage them to register to vote and vote early.

The event was sponsored by the Alliance for Retired Americans, a non-partisan organization that tries to ensure social and economic justice for seniors.

State Rep. Peggy Welch stopped by to lend her support to the event before heading to Indianapolis.

"I'm always supportive of senior issues, and the Alliance for Retired Americans does all it can to keep seniors motivated to vote," she said.

The Retiree Roadrunner program consists of eight "Roadrunner vans" that are traveling around the country, visiting retiree town hall meetings, pancake breakfasts and other events.

Alliance representatives hand out voter guides, candidate comparisons and information on such issues as Social Security, Medicare and the stimulus rebate.

In Indiana, today is the last day for non-registered voters to register to vote, and also the day that absentee voting starts .

The van plans to visit Terre Haute and Evansville Tuesday , Muncie and Fort Wayne Wednesday, and Kokomo and South Bend Thursday.

The Alliance, with more than a million members, seeks to help seniors retain dignity in retirement.
